Dear Fellow Skiers,

Thanks for participating in another great ski year. Some changes of note in 2011. The SSE moved office (wait patiently for your membership if paying by cheque). We had the last Celtic Cup series, but have a great mix of artificial and indoor races to look forward to in 2012. Good luck to all racers heading off to the slopes this winter.

Wishing you all a Merry Snowy Christmas.

2-5pm

Pontypool Ski Centre

We invite racers to compete in the above event to be held at the Pontypool Ski Centre Saturday 26th November 2011, starting at 2pm. This event is a new format to artificial slope racing, we aim to run two seeded two run races in the one afternoon, and is designed to serve the purpose of providing local development entry level race opportunities. The competition will be open to registered racers (who will be able to gain seeding from their participation), minis & non registered ‘day’ entries (N.B. non registered racers must be members of an affiliated ski club).

Programme

The times given below are provisional and may alter on the day, but in order to meet the tight

timescales please ensure you are ready to start on time and listen carefully for any announcements.

13.30 Racer Registration, bib issue

14.00 – 14.30 Open Practice

14.30 – 14.45 Course Setting

14.45 – 15:00 Inspection 1st run

15:05 Timed Runs (4 runs on the same course – 2×2 timed runs = 2 races)

Every attempt will be made to keep to the event schedule; however the organisers reserve the right to amend the schedule as appropriate.

Entry Criteria

These races will be a special slalom consisting of 2 runs down the same course. We will be aiming to run 4 consecutive runs in the afternoon session, giving 2 seeded race opportunities. The event will be open to registered racers (who will be able to gain seeding from their participation), minis & non registered ‘day’ entries (N.B. non registered racers must be members of an affiliated ski club).

The number of entrants is limited to a maximum of 70 competitors.

Therefore, in the event of the race being oversubscribed, acceptance will be determined by seedpoints using the BARTS list current as at the closing date for entries. Racers with higher seedpoints will be given preference.

Race Entry Information and Acceptance

The entry fee for this event is £15.00. Entries must be submitted by post using the attached entry form to the race secretary by the closing date of 18th November 2011. Acceptance lists will be published on the Snowsport Wales website www.snowpsortwales.net in the week prior to the event.

Officials

To run these races cheaply and effectively we need the support of parents to assist with officiating. We ask each competition entry to nominate an official to assist with running the event. Training will be given to novice officials, this will be a great way for parents to get to know a bit more about the rules of the sport.

Race Rules / Health & Safety / Drug testing

For further information see www.britski.org

Excel Event Notes

Excel Events are organized to give developing racers increased opportunities to compete in entry level competitions. Entry priority will be given to registered racers with highest (most) seedpoints.

Excel Events results will be sent to the national seeder to qualify for seeding. The event will be run under the supervision of a British Technical Delegate.

It is anticipated Excel Events will have a minimum penalty of 10 BARTS points.

Every attempt will be to provide 4 timed runs during the afternoon session, providing two seeded race opportunities. However, if due to circumstances beyond our control we are unable to complete 4 runs we will aim to seed the event based upon the first two timed runs.

The 4 timed runs will run consecutively. Please be aware there will be little time for ski preparation between runs, If a racer misses their start they risk being sanctioned.

Protocol (disqualifications) for all runs will be posted at the end of the final timed run. Protests against disqualification will require a protest to be submitted with a protest fee of £25.00

Race results will be posted at the end of racing on that day, they will also be published on the Snowsport Wales website www.snowsportwales.net

There will be no prize giving ceremony, nor will there be medals or trophies awarded. Excel Events are organized to give race experience not prizes.

Withdrawals

Following entry into the race, a partial refund will only be given to racers with proof of injury or illness.

First Aid

First aid cover will be provided by the ski centre staff .

Home nations Skiing join forces to bring

Great British Racing to Summer 2012

SnowSport England, SnowSport Scotland and SnowSport Wales have come together to bring a new dimension to the home nations summer racing programme. The exciting new series will create two champions, one for the traditional artificial outdoor slopes and one for the indoor snow facilities.

The series, will take place at the traditional venues including at least one in each country at Glasgow, Pontypool and Manchester.

There are also plans to include a GS race and a Parallel Slalom. Both indoor and outdoor series will create a champion in all male and female categories based on a point system with an overall champion for each surface.

The series will replace the current Celtic Cup and Grand Prix series.

The organisers are currently in discussion with commercial partners for overall race branding and individual venue sponsors.

Further information about the individual race venues and dates will be released on completion of the 2012 Race Calendar.
